Recently, my husband and I spent a weekend away from each other. He went to Chicago to spend time with his younger sister, and I stayed home with Matteo and our three dogs. My husband and I don’t always share the same interests. For instance, Football is something he loves, and I don’t. And that’s one of the things I love about our marriage, having our own differences and interests. These are opportunities for us to do things apart, to be our own self. Then come back feeling recharged.
During this time, I was able to spend some quality time with my son. We did some fun activities, had takeaways, spent a day at the farm, and just really enjoyed our time together. At the end of the day, I texted my husband to tell him I miss him, and moments like this are so important.
In this episode, I’d like to share the four words that have literally shifted and changed my life. These four words have changed the way I present myself to myself and to the world. And just like my relationship with my husband, it has transformed my life in ways I could only imagine.
Consistency is a word I use often, especially because I’m a mindset coach, and consistency is part of the formula to succeed. When you’re thinking about creating shifts in your life, however small or big your goal is, you can get there as long as you practice consistency. Start with baby steps and do it consistently.
In the past, I also struggled with being inconsistent, and I’d end up quitting or not committing with the goals I had. Until I became aware that my lack of consistency was my truth. Start exploring what consistency would look like in the different areas of your life, and know what you can gain out of it. Make it your goal. Once you’ve applied consistency in one area of your life, all the other areas will follow.
I’d like you to think that commitment is the promise, while consistency is the action. Commitment is the energy, and the why to your goals. Always circle back to re-learning why you’re doing something, why it’s important. That becomes your driving force to commit and to push yourself to work. Be invested in the result that it makes you want to really commit.
I’m a hypersensitive human, I’m very emotional, so this is really not new to me. But what I really lacked is compassion for myself. I had it for everyone and everything but not much for myself. I believe that compassion also means being understanding. Understanding the situation, understanding others and yourself. Do not judge yourself on a regular basis and find yourself guilty. That is what lack of self-compassion looks like.
We are human, and that means being imperfect. Being compassionate allows us to not be hard on ourselves, to accept the imperfections. For me, compassion has really allowed me to lessen the way I judge myself, and to judge myself in a much more favorable way, and to give myself moments of grace for being human and imperfect.
Courage is a very important word for me. It has taken my life to a whole new experience. In my early 20’s, my level of anxiety was so high. I thought my anxiety would never leave me, and fear was always going to be a part of my existence, and I needed to learn to live with it. But I finally decided to shift those fears into courage instead.
